Can I get a loan if I have filed bankruptcy?
While an individual is under the protection of the bankruptcy court or in consumer credit counseling, they are not eligible for a loan. Bankruptcy is usually an indication of someone who has had a problem managing finances. Occasionally it is the result of some unforeseeable event that was not under the control of the applicant. If you have filed bankruptcy, you should discuss your individual situation with your loan officer. If you have reestablished a positive credit history and had an acceptable explanation for the bankruptcy, you might be considered for new credit.
